I hope you all survived the weekend, whether you spent it shooting off your appendages with illegal fireworks, gorging yourself at a barbecue, rooting for your favourite cyclist in Le Tour de France, binge-watching "Dark", or merely chilling with a good book or movie.

While I was waxing nostalgic for the 80s over the weekend, I came up with the idea for this thread, and found - YES! - another quiz to test your 80s knowledge, or recall, if applicable.

Manilow also wrote lyrics and performed the theme song used for Dick Clark's American Bandstand between 1977-1986.

What Is Your Fondest Memory Of High School?

 

Despite the pandemic, schools continue to prepare for graduation ceremonies this month.

So, I started reflecting on my own high school experiences.

Aside from my first kiss from another boy, and the ensuing drama that filled the remainder of my senior year, I believe my fondest memory was playing the lead in a school play that was filmed and broadcast on local cable TV.

Yeah, well, they didn't ... not exactly, anyway. But the memory still lingers. Oh, and I have a copy on VHS.

The Sadie Hawkins Day Dance was a real hoot, too!

Uh, I don't recall it quite like that, but then again ...

What Will You Miss About the Pandemic?

 

Hello, Freaks & Geeks!

I hope y'all are enjoying your weekend.

Well, it appears we're returning to some sense of normalcy, as people go back to work and school, and businesses and popular activities continue reopening.

But, folks, let's admit it. There are some things about the pandemic we're going to miss. 

Yeah, there are the obvious aspects, like working from home in pajamas, or the global effects, like less traffic and congestion in supermarkets. But, how about the small, more personal, things that you've come to appreciate?

For instance, I'm going to miss weekly family Zoom nights. Although we won't be getting together  in person regularly, I somehow doubt we will continue these check-ins once everyone's lives resume.

I will also miss being able to walk around the corner for lunch and eating at home during the weekdays.

So, what are you going to miss, after you leave your pandemic prison?

What's up, Freaks & Geeks?

I hope y'all are having a fabulous Friday!

Anyhoo, now that newspapers are all but extinct, gone are those bright Sunday mornings, relaxing while sipping coffee and reading the Sunday comics... in colour!

My favourite childhood comics included Peanuts (of course), Calvin and Hobbes, Andy Capp, Cathy, The Family Circus, and Dennis the Menace.

At university, I graduated to Doonesbury, Bloom County and The Far Side.

Post-university, I was an avid fan of Matt Groening's Life in Hell, particularly Akbar and Jeff.

Life in Hell eventually gave birth to The Simpsons.
